According to recent news stories, Friendster is the oldest social networking site, founded in 2002. Classmates was founded in 1995. Either way that is a lot years for people to make new acquaintances and reconnect with ones from the past.
Some folks think that technology is cold and reduces the amount of actual contact between people. There may be some truth in that, but at the same time these folks should not deny the value of finding people who you lost contact with from school, military service, old neighborhoods and former jobs.
Think of someone you lost contact with over the years and see if you can reconnect through Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or any of the other sites. Start by Googling a name. If it is a common name, add a high school, military branch, state name, etc. to increase your search success. Go to the social networking sites and search there as well.
You never know how reaching out to someone may affect their life and yours, especially at the holidays.
May your every wish come true!
